If any potential defects are found, an “area of interest” is declared and a request goes out to the Sandia team for a detailed report.īy using a set of in-house processing tools, workstation operators can quickly generate a report that details the length, width, and depth of the specified object, says Mark. This high-quality, low-noise imagery is closely examined by NASA screeners for artifacts that did not exist on the shuttle before lift off. This is to help the screeners avoid information overload, while ensuring that full inspection coverage is maintained.Īnother ground station product is generated by registering multiple contiguous frames together into a single sharpened image. When the level 1 images are delivered to NASA, the total number of frames is reduced by a factor of four, Mark says. The first product, called level 1, is the imagery corrected for transmission line artifacts incurred, and for fixed pattern noise, which is called flat field correction. The Sandia team staffed four workstations, which captured the down-linked data and provided various types of products for the NASA screening teams. The sensor generates images of 720 by 480 pixels, at 30 Hz, which are transmitted to the Space Center. The operation is repeated just before the shuttle returns to earth, in case the shuttle was impacted by micrometeorites or space debris while on orbit. Approximately three hours of video is acquired. On flight day two after liftoff, the LDRI sensor is used in a series of multiple pass scans of the leading edges of both wings of the shuttle and of the nose cap. “In the spirit of doing everything possible to aid the NASA screeners, the Sandia ground station team processed the NASA data and provided them with improved, high-quality imagery that helped NASA make the decision to return the shuttle to earth,” says team member Mark Heying (2624). Mission control decided to do a quick inspection of the shuttle’s skin using NASA’s in-house video camera. This one part is bad but it does literally happen every hundred yards, I wish I was joking about that. Every hundred yards Okami stops the gameplay and has a character, usually, Issun, have to impart some information to the player or to Amaterasu. The first big problem I have with Okami is that the game constantly wants to talk to the player. I need to list three things, that hinders the entire experience and they are only in the area of how Okami handles the story. I played approximately 10 hours of Okami and it is really rough. Well ok, the problem is there’s a rather big issue outside of those three things. So we have a game with great graphics, excellent gameplay, and an interesting story, why is this even a discussion. Japanese Lore is great, and Okami does a great job delivering on it. And honestly, the story is really interesting. The game also gathers in the Susano myth. So Amaterasu and Issun fighting against the great Orochi, an eight-headed dragon. Now I’m probably going to butcher these names so apologies to those who hear it. The story of Okami is fantastic as well, the game is based on Japanese mythology. Technically this is Clover Studios, which was Platinum Games before they were called Platinum Games and they are great. In addition, the gameplay is fantastic it’s using a similar style to Zelda coupled with a fresh and new drawing system with its Celestial Brush techniques. The graphics in Okami are so beautiful that I really can’t think of anything negative about it, other than it makes other games look bad. Let’s just quickly talk about the big pieces. Now, let’s be clear about this, this is not a review I just want to discuss Okami and really one specific part of it but I still am kind of reviewing the game. We know you want to get a better grasp of how these different points of view have been used in popular and famous books that you might have read. “One of the reasons behind that is that authors want readers to connect with the protagonist the most, and the omniscient narration can take away from the connection that they build with the protagonist,” says Henry Altman, a freelance editor at Britstudent. Generally, the past hundred years has been the era of limited narrators, whereas in the 18th and 19th centuries the omniscient narrator was more popular and even heralded by greats like Gustave Flaubert. As such, third-person limited narrator knows only what one of the characters knows. It is not to be mixed up with the third person limited narrator who sees life through the eyes of one of the characters. They can lead the readers through a wide variety of characters, points of view and scenes without it being unnatural. This narrator has a good understanding of the story’s world as well. They have insight into what will happen and what has happened. So the definition of an omniscient narrator is a narrator that knows everything and everyone in the story. We’ll also tell you five of the wonderful things an omniscient narrator can do for your novel. Today we’ll tell you a little about omniscient narrators and 3rd person limited narrators. However, an omniscient narrator can do wonders for your story. When we write we avoid using a narrator, and write as if we are the main character. We all enjoy movies with the soothing voice of grandfatherly narrators like Morgan Freeman, James Earl Jones, or Peter Falk. Oh, omniscient narrator, it’s time you come to the light. For the more visually challenged amongst us, the game offers a hint system, which once used highlights the area of something you’re looking for. The game has this ability to leave you sat looking blankly at the screen for ages when the answer is right under your nose, and it’s here where the game really excels. The items themselves are very well integrated into the environments, with a lot of items either acting a part of the scenery, camouflaged cleverly or just represented in a way that you wouldn’t expect. Some of the items in the list might be presented as cryptic clues, or they might require you to fulfil certain criteria, such as using tape to repair a wire, or putting items in a box. To tick an item off the list you simply click on it. You are presented with a picture of a decrepit and cluttered area, such as a library or train station and provided with a list of ten items to locate. The main bulk of the game seems to take inspiration from the old Virgin Digital Music quiz that did the rounds a few years back. ‘Where’s Wally’ crossed with Silent Hill… Thankfully, the core gameplay mechanics do actually work in the midst of a game that doesn’t quite know what it wants to be. It’s a set-up that is bizarrely inconsistent, and it comes across scatter-brained. The grand finale is the only scene that requires any lateral thinking and it sticks out like a sore thumb in comparison to the rest of the game. With this you’d expect a point and click game, or something that requires investigation, only bizarrely, the way to escape is to find objects from a 2D image and occasionally solve puzzle mini-games. The premise of the game is to escape from what seems to be a remote and deserted Silent Hill-esque American town called Whisper Valley. All signs seem to point to some sort of dark narrative, but there really is no narrative at all. To hear the chilling music, see the title and the opening screens, you’d be forgiven for thinking that this was not your typical Popcap game. Implying there’s a story when there really isn’t… The title intrigued me, but the premise intrigued me more in what I found to be a very strangely put together package. Billed as a ‘Hidden Object Game’, I had no idea what to expect when going in. One such smaller studio is Spintop Games, who haven’t exactly set the world alight with their contribution to the industry (I’d never heard of them before), however their latest game, Escape Whisper Valley, became available to purchase through Popcap and has received a fair amount of marketing. As part of Popcap’s quest to dominate the casual and puzzle market, they have been known to acquire smaller, independent studios along the way. in the mid-2000s, DuPont acknowledged knowing of PFAS’s dangers, and it and several other chemical manufacturers subsequently committed to phase out the use of certain kinds of the chemical by 2015. But it wasn’t until the early 2000s, when the environmental attorney Rob Bilott sued DuPont for pollution from its Teflon plant in Parkersburg, W.Va., that the dangers of PFAS started to be widely known. Industry researchers have long been aware of their toxicity. Both Congress and the Biden administration have moved to better regulate PFAS, which contaminate the drinking water of as many as 80 million Americans. The substances have come under scrutiny in recent years for their tendency to persist in the environment, and to accumulate inside the human body, as well as for their links to health problems like cancer and birth defects. The presence of PFAS in oil and gas extraction threatens to expose oil-field employees and emergency workers handling fires and spills as well as people who live near, or downstream from, drilling sites to a class of chemicals that has faced increasing scrutiny for its links to cancer, birth defects, and other serious health problems.Ī class of man-made chemicals that are toxic even in minuscule concentrations, for decades PFAS were used to make products like nonstick pans, stain-resistant carpeting and firefighting foam. But Chemours, which was spun off from DuPont in 2015, has not spoken publicly about the use of these chemicals in drilling and fracking.Īn Exxon spokesman, in response to questions regarding whether it uses the chemicals, said, “We do not manufacture PFAS.” that it had failed to report information about the health and environmental effects of PFAS, in the largest administrative penalty the agency had ever imposed at the time. In 2005, DuPont also agreed to pay $16 million to settle allegations by the E.P.A. The Biden administration had made addressing PFAS a top priority, he added, for example by proposing a rule to require all manufacturers and importers of PFAS since 2011 to disclose more information on the chemicals, including their environmental and health effects.Ĭhemours, which has in the past agreed to pay hundreds of millions of dollars to settle injury claims related to PFOA pollution, declined to comment. He said the redactions in the documents were mandated by a statute protecting confidential business information. spokesman, said that the chemicals in question were approved a decade ago, and that amendments to laws since then now required the agency to affirm the safety of new chemicals before they are allowed into the marketplace. “This isn’t something I was aware of,” said Tony Choate, a Chickasaw Nation spokesman. Nine of those wells were in Carter County, Okla., within the boundaries of Chickasaw Nation. Because not all states require companies to report chemicals to the database, the number of wells could be higher. But the FracFocus database, which tracks chemicals used in fracking, shows that about 120 companies used PFAS - or chemicals that can break down into PFAS, the most common of which was “nonionic fluorosurfactant” and various misspellings - in more than 1,000 wells between 20 in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Wyoming. There is no public data that details where the E.P.A.-approved chemicals have been used. Even the name of the company that applied for approval is redacted, and the records give only a generic name for the chemicals: fluorinated acrylic alkylamino copolymer. documents describing the chemicals approved in 2011 date from the Obama administration and are heavily redacted because the agency allows companies to invoke trade-secret claims to keep basic information on new chemicals from public release. In 2008, a scientific paper published in an oil-industry journal and led by a DuPont researcher referred to the “exceptional” water-repelling and other characteristics of types of chemicals that include PFAS, and called the chemicals an “emerging technology” that showed promise for use in oil and gas extraction. identified serious health risks associated with chemicals proposed for use in oil and gas extraction, and yet allowed those chemicals to be used commercially with very lax regulation,” said Dusty Horwitt, researcher at Physicians for Social Responsibility.įor fracking to work, the energy industry has an appetite for chemicals that, when pumped underground at high pressure, can coax oil out of the ground most efficiently. Kisame treated him as if he were made of glass, which hurt. He was much thinner and a great deal quieter. I will move Naruto’s room so that Itachi can be next to Kisame.” He shuddered. I told Sasuke I would need to see Itachi before deciding but I just wanted to show him how hard it is. “Whatever he says, Sasuke would never forgive me and Lady knows what Kisame would do, probably walk out the nearest airlock. “I would be crazy to demand Itachi’s life,” Haku admitted. “Yes, we have never been apart this long since we met. Iruka coloured slightly, which was rather endearing. “I expect you are missing Kakashi-san,” Haku commented. It would burn itself out or Konohamaru would rebel against the notion that Inari was dominant in the relationship. Apparently Kono-kun had persuaded Inari to let him fuck him only to have the tables turned Inari was nailing Kono-kun to every available surface as often as their duties allowed. He had been right Konohamaru and Inari were fucking like rabbits. There were issues about transferring the kits to the new gestators, so it was uncertain how long the others would have to stay on the surface. Apparently they came with a nursemaid, a dog-human hybrid called Kiba. They had been modifying Iruka’s crew room to accommodate the kits. “Do you want to talk about it, or should I tell you what had been happening?” Iruka asked. The cats and Sumaru cleared away, cleaned up in record time and vanished. He wondered who was fucking whom, or whether they were taking turns. Haku guessed that his relationship with Inari had moved into a new phase. Inoichi was looking at him with hopeful eyes the very last thing Haku felt like was indulging one of Inoichi’s fantasies. Haku knew he would be the same if it were not for the thoughts of Itachi and Kisame that refused to go away.Ĭhoza had cooked some of Haku’s favourite foods, which was kind of him but it meant that Haku had to eat and he had to be appreciative. Shino and Anko were too exhausted to do more than chew and swallow. “We did not push ourselves to our limits to have the gestators idling here on the Oak.” “Aren’t you due to go back to the surface, Sasuke-sama?” he asked pointedly. I refuse to decide until I have seen him,” Haku answered. Haku, are you going to demand his life?” he asked. “Where will he live? In my crew room?” he asked. I have promised to kill him if he reverts.” The Therapist will also tell us how stable he is. We need to know the extent and nature of the memory loss. “Asuma does not trust him, but he has agreed to the idea of getting a Centralite Therapist to analyse his mind. “They have agreed not to kill him,” Sasuke confirmed. Itachi was recast as victim rather than psychotic killer. “So, no, I do not think he and Kisame are fucking.” The vow of a Companion supersedes even that of an elite fighter to his clan leader if Father laid a finger on him, Kisame would kill him. They came up with a way of making Father stop. “Then he reached fourteen and was sent to be cat,” he continued. Instead he was beaten and.” he trailed off. All he wanted was some love, or even some approval. “What Father did to them he also did to Itachi. “I know that some of the fighters will have told you.” “You have some idea what my father was like,” Sasuke began. They went to Sasuke’s office and sat in opposite chairs. “If you want to save his life, I suggest you forget such niceties.” Haku halted a little way along the corridor and turned to face him. Haku, it isn’t my place to tell you why Itachi is the way he is.” “Tell me how it is between him and Kisame,” he requested. I know you have the right to demand his death. He knows what he did to you but only because Kisame has told him.” He took a deep breath. “There is nothing for the last eleven or twelve standards, from before the massacre, and there are gaps from before that. He suspected that Sasuke was in the docking bay for the same reason. Haku knew why Sasuke had sent him on the Dart. They had pushed the Dart to its limits and jumped far too often for comfort but they brought the gestators to the Jewel system on the soonest possible day.
